Armenia-Japan friendship group meets in Yerevan

YEREVAN. – The meeting of Armenia-Japan friendship group with the participation of Japan’s Ambassador Chikahito Harada (residence in Moscow) was held in the Armenian parliament on Friday.

Head of the group Samvel Farmanyan spoke about Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan’s recent visit to Japan and asked to convene an invitation to visit Armenia to Japanese lawmakers. Farmanyan underscored Japan’s assistance in overcoming consequences of the 1988 devastating earthquake and importance to establish an embassy in Yerevan.

Ambassador Harada noted that opening of an embassy is related to certain financial difficulties.

The sides also touched upon the regional developments. Farmanyan rated high Japan’s position on the Karabakh issue. Ambassador Harada said Japan will assist the efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group and is supporting only peaceful settlement in accordance with the international standards.
