RA minister of Transport and Communications Gagik Beglaryan visited Moscow recently where he met with the director of Roscosmos federative space agency Vladimir Popovkin. During the meeting the sides discussed issues of creating and deploying cosmic satellite for Armenia’s communication system, as well as operation of jointly owned geostationary orbit 71.4 E position in the space.
Before this meeting an agreement was signed between the RA ministry of transportation and connection and Information satellite system company. Work on creation of space system of television broadcasting on the orbit 71.4E has started. The parties agreed to soon sign an agreement with Geiser-Telekom to prepare the sponsorship of Armenian satellite.
As a result Armenia will have its own broadcasting satellite for the first time ever. This will create new opportunities for the development of RA’s security, science and telecommunications technologies.
The Armenian alphabet is also scheduled to be sent into outer space in commemoration of 500th anniversary of printing in Armenia and Yerevan being world book-capital 2012 by UNESCO.
