It’s been more than a year that Kanachastan NGO cooperates with the corresponding departments of transportation of the Municipality.  In order to find out the level of interest of the citizens in the bicycle traffic the Kanachastan NGO has conducted a survey, the results of which show that 91% of the citizens will be glad to have a bicycle traffic in the city and 41% of them are willing to use the bike rent services.During the surveys conducted in the city responding to the question of what factors are impeding bicycle traffic, overwhelming majority (about 73%) responded to the lack of bicycle traffic areas, 42.7%  in non-tolerant attitude of the drivers , 40, 3% responded to the lack of bicycle stops and so on. “Kanachastan” NGO has studied a number of European countries’ experience in this field.

According to their studies, during the last 30-40 years, the  bicycle transportation in European countries has grown rapidly. Yerevan Municipality has provided about 1million AMD for marking traffic sings and other activities. The authors of the bicycle transportation project are sure that all preconditions exist for developing this infrastructure,  because even this kind of transport never used in the city, anyway the legislation of this field exists and is almost complete. This is the first part of the project, so it’ll take some time to implement the whole project.
