HyeBiz has been able to confirm that strong magnitude earthquake has been felt in Armenia today, including in Yerevan and Southern Armenia, in the region of Syunik, starting at 8/11 4:15 p.m. local time, RA.
AFT reports that two strong earthquakes have hit northwestern Iran, sparking panic among some of the 1.5 million residents of the city of Tabriz and across the border in Armenia.
Tehran University’s Seismological Center said the first earthquake had a magnitude of 6.2 with its epicenter some 60 kilometers from Tabriz.
That was followed by a second earthquake with a magnitude of 6.0.
The U.S. Geological Survey, which monitors earthquakes worldwide, said the first quake measured 6.2 and the second 6.3.
The earthquake was still sufficiently powerful to shake residents in the Armenian capital, Yerevan, and send people running from their homes into the streets. Several aftershocks have been felt in Armenia.
Armenian officials said preliminary reports indicted no major damage or casualties were caused by the earthquakes.
