September 10th is marked as the opening day of the 6th International Music Festival in Yerevan.
Yerevan International Music Festival was founded in 2007.The Festival is being held during early autumn thus remarking the opening of the Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra’s new musical season.
This year the capital of Armenia is to host world famous musicians and composers. As usual, the festival will present symphony and chamber concerts and master classes for young Armenian musicians. The honorary guest of this year’s festival is world known French pianist and composer Michel Legrand, to whom the closing concert of the festival will be dedicated. The closing concert will be held on October 20th: the 80thanniversary of maestro. Legrand and his wife are supposed to arrive in Yerevan on October 18.
Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra and City Lights Entertainment (London) will give a joint concert in honor of French composer, arranger and pianist Michel Legrand on his 80th birthday. The concerts will feature Borodin Quartet, Michel Legrand, Simon Trpceski, Andreas Froelich, Diemut Poppen as well as world-class Armenian musicians, such as Vahan Mardirossian and Suren Bagratuni.
Michel Legrand became famous for his film music and scores, such as The Umbrellas of Cherbourg and The Thomas Crown Affair. He won three Oscars and five Grammys. Legrand has composed more than two hundred film and television scores and several musicals and has made well over a hundred albums.
